Overview

A Field Communications Network Tech is responsible for delivering secure, performant, reliable, and efficient end-to-end network services for Industrial Control Systems (ICS), Automation, Drilling, and other critical business units in West Texas and New Mexico.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve complex networking problems impacting business applications and services. 
  • Utilize IT Service Management tools to document, manage, and resolve operational, infrastructure, or hardware incidents and requests. Prioritize and manage multiple open items simultaneously. 
  • Monitor system management tools for automated alerts and make effective resolution decisions. 
  • Provide 24/7 on-call support, including off-hours and weekend availability. 
  • Travel to field locations, such as towers, communication shelters, fiber vaults, and well facilities, to restore services. 
  • Provide solutions to complex connectivity and technology integration issues. 
  • Collaborate with IT, managers, and stakeholders to develop action plans for improved operations. 
  • Participate in the design, testing, and deployment of network technologies in the field. 
  • Install, configure, test, and maintain upgraded and new network devices and services based on user-defined requirements. 
  • Engage with business units to ensure deadlines and objectives are met, and keep customers informed of changes and issues within the field network environment. 
  • Assist in identifying hardware/software needs and provide advice on current options, policies, and procedures. 
  • Unbox, inventory, test, and install field communications hardware at various sites, integrating infrastructure with cloud management platforms and monitoring tools. 
  • Schedule and implement firmware updates, security changes, and configuration adjustments to field network systems. 
  • Set and achieve goals for optimizing field networks by focusing on people, processes, and technology. 
  • Manage assigned field network projects, including planning, budgeting, executing, procurement, documentation, closing, and continuous improvement, utilizing ServiceNow for project management. 
  • Coordinate asset and inventory management for field network infrastructure. 
  • Document technical processes, troubleshooting guidelines, system designs, as-built diagrams, and operational information related to field networks, publishing guidelines for the organization. 
  • Participate in the analysis and selection of new technologies to meet expanding organizational needs, working with vendors to determine the best options based on functionality, durability, support, and cost. 

Qualifications

  • College degree in Computer Science, MIS, Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent work experience in information technologies or telecommunications may be acceptable. 
  • Experience designing, supporting, or deploying networks. 
  • Experience with RF, communications towers, and telecommunications facilities design, construction, and commissioning. 
  • Experience with structured cabling and fiber optic infrastructure, including design, installation best practices, and industry standards. 
  • Experience with internet networking technologies (TCP/IP, routing, switching) and optical transport technologies. 
  • Experience with process improvement and automating repetitive workflows with software. 
  • Track record of solving problems, setting strategic direction, and executing tactically. 
  • Experience working with on-site construction teams and managing general contractor and vendor relationships. 
  • In-depth understanding and troubleshooting skills in cabling infrastructure (Layer 1 - Fiber, Copper), wired network devices, IP telephony, two-way radio, local area networks, wide area networks, and potential connectivity issues. 
  • Results-oriented with creative problem-solving abilities. 
  • Collaborative with peers, proactively learning expert-level knowledge. 
  • Willingness to take risks in innovative activities and emerging technologies. 
  • Ability to manage complex project work involving multiple disciplines, with accountability for results. 
  • Strong documentation and communication skills, able to compose documentation and presentations spanning multiple disciplines, and effectively communicate complex problems and resolutions to various audiences.
