Overview

The Instrument & Electrical (I&E) Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, calibrating, troubleshooting, testing, and repairing electrical, instrumentation, and control systems used in plant or offshore production operations. This role ensures equipment reliability, operational efficiency, product quality, and compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements. The I&E Technician works closely with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, and Projects personnel to support safe and reliable facility performance.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair electrical, instrumentation, and control systems.
  • Test and diagnose electrical and instrumentation equipment to ensure proper operation and adherence to performance requirements.
  • Evaluate electrical and control system failures and develop effective repair and corrective action plans.
  • Document equipment issues, maintenance activities, repairs performed, and corrective actions taken.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee activities within assigned areas of responsibility in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, specifications, and company procedures.
  • Maintain a strong focus on health, safety, environmental stewardship, and operational integrity.
  • Support and promote collaboration between Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, and Projects teams.
  • Provide input and review electrical and control system specifications, standards, and work practices.
  • Assume responsibility and accountability for electrical and control systems in accordance with company maintenance and work management processes.
  • Apply and follow Permit to Work System (PTWS) requirements and procedures.
  • Ensure maintenance activities are completed safely, efficiently, and within scheduled timelines.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to other technicians on electrical and instrumentation systems.
  • Support maintenance work prioritization to maximize equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
  • Generate and manage Management of Change (MOC) requests related to electrical and control equipment and installations.
  • Conduct installation inspections and ensure compliance with Operations Integrity Management System (OIMS) requirements.
  • Construct, monitor, inspect, and evaluate new electrical and instrumentation installations, recommending improvements and upgrades as needed.
  • Attend and facilitate technical meetings to communicate updates on specifications, codes, procedures, technology, and best practices.
  • Maintain open communication regarding safety practices, training, materials, and technical issues affecting electrical and control systems.
  • Develop personal and team technical capabilities through ongoing training and professional development.
  • Serve as a backup to the Instrument & Electrical Lead as required.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Electrical Technology, Instrumentation Technology, Electronics Technology, or a related technical discipline.
  • Relevant technical certifications required.
  • Experience maintaining electrical systems and instrumentation and control systems in an oil and gas processing facility, refinery, petrochemical plant, or offshore production environment.
  • Experience troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining industrial electrical and control systems.
