Overview

The Deepwater Field Measurement Specialty Operator role is a combined role of a field measurement technician who is also cross trained to support production operations in an operator role. The focus is primarily for the regular support of measurement procedures for metering, sampling, witnessing and well testing allocation oversight. The integration of overall production operations support in a backup capacity only would be included with the specialty operator being trained to conduct production operation duties. 

Responsibilities

Measurement Duties

  • Spar field measurement focal point for all field measurement and allocation activities including interfacing with engineering and other disciplines for the facility and reviewing and interface with Office Measurement Consultant on individual and combined Spar Measurement Procedures.
  • Sales Measurement Witnessing for Gas and LACT Oil Custody Transfer Measurement including gas calibrations and gas chromatograph, LACT meter provings, LACT & Gas Sales sampling for quality and quantity determination with associated documentation administration (ex. proving reports, run tickets, gas volume statements, etc.)
  • Allocation measurement duties will included:
    1. Conducting gas calibrations of Total Flow and Inspection of Sr. Orifice fittings on Test Separator and Kodiak Separators
    2. Review of 3rd party oil and condensate meter calibrations where applicable
    3. Interface with I&E personnel for measurement device data flow into Delta V supervisory system
    4. Oversight and Guidance of liquid allocation meter installations for rotations for off-site 3rd party provings on Test and Kodiak Allocation Meters.  
    5. Manage associated Meter Factor review with Delta V application including associated K-Factor application where warranted.
    6. Either conduct or witness (as applicable) Gas Lift, Fuel, and Buy Back Meter Calibrations and Orifice Fitting Inspections
    7. “Torus Wedge” Meter oversight for overboard water measurement and coordination with well testing and Continuous Water Monitoring.
  • Well Measurement and Testing duties will include:
    1. Validation of well testing for allocation purposes  
    2. S&W determination for well testing via Continuous (Red Eye) Water Cut Meter and actual sampling for S&W determination via Shake-out as necessary
    3. Calculation review of Multiphase Flow Meter “commingled & omission testing” for subsea field allocation into overall asset allocation.
  • Regulatory Compliance Administration including:
    1. Tracking BSEE measurement compliance for sales meter provings and associated waivers
    2. Run Ticket review for volumes accuracy
    3. LACT Security Sealing Record Keeping
    4. Prover “water draw certifications”
    5. Associated “Surface Commingling & Production Measurement” Permit compliance support.
    6. DOT Compliance for Sample Pressurized Cylinder Inspection / Certification for Transportation
  • Sampling and Sampler Oversight included:
    1. Operational oversight of sales, allocation, and well sampling for representative functionality and sample capture accuracy.
    2. Assure both composite and spot sampling procedures are followed in accordance with API Standards and industry best practices.
    3. Focal Point for Composite Sample Cylinder Administration between Spar and Laboratory
    4. Conduct YZ Composite Sampler Annual Inspections, regular maintenance/repair and sampler adjustment for accurate proportional to flow representativeness.
    5. Track YZ DS-9 500 and 1000 cc Cylinder maintenance and operability.
    6. Oversee and assure YZ Composite Sample Cylinders are properly cleaned and pre-charged prior to rotational installations.
    7. Track all cylinder’s DOT Annual Pressure Testing and Inspection w/ compliance recordkeeping tracking.
    8. Conduct spot sampling in accordance with assets written procedure.
    9. Draft COC to the applicable laboratories for the sample cylinder travel to Fourchon and Laboratory. 
    10. Maintain inventory of all sample cylinders by SN with tracking management.
  • Near Infrared Water Cut Meter Verification, Calibration and Programming including:
    1. Perform monthly S&W verification tracking of Red Eye Water Cut Meter value versus S&W determination via Field centrifuge Method.
    2. Scale each well’s and commingled well test stream’s composition and S&W for input into Delta V  System with Automation Specialist Support.
    3. Perform Red Eye Ocular Lense Cleaning if occluded. 
  • Measurement Temperature and Pressure Device Management including:
    1. Perform quarterly verification of Rosemount Pressure and Temperature Transmitters at test and allocation measurement locations with certified traceable thermometers and pressure gauges. Re-calibrate per customer procedures if necessary
    2. Identify when measurement transmitters have failed or are not able to be re-calibrated and work with Electrical Technician for transmitter replacement.
  • Measurement Equipment Administration Oversight including:
    1. Serve as Measurement SME for the ordering and the maintaining of NIST traceable certifications for Spar’s measurement equipment and glassware (Centrifuge Tubes, Thermohydrometers, etc.)
    2. Provide operability guidance to Operations on all measurement devices including meters, samplers, probes, transmitters, centrifuges, S&W Monitors, etc.

Operations Duties

 

This position is designed to be “measurement first” but, in the times where critical operational needs exist and the specialty operator is available, below is the list of possible duties that the specialty operator could assist with, resulting in full operator training as well.

  • Monitor chemical injection rates.
  • Monitoring levels in vessels, flushing bridals as directed by control room.
  • Compliance testing safety systems. PSHL, PSV’s etc.
  • Rigging for crane operator during crane activities.
  • Opening and closing manual valves, as directed by the control room.
  • Assist in platform maintenance, washing decks and cleaning facility.
  • Assist in securing platform for weather evacuations.

Qualifications

  • 5 years of prior Measurement experience preferred.
  • I&E Tech knowledge and capabilities a plus.
  • Knowledge of pulling both liquid and gas samples.
  • Experience performing meter proving and calibrating meters.
  • Experience in coordinating and witnessing LACT and Sales Gas P/L Meter calibrations.
  • Good computer and software skills.

  • Offshore travel within the Gulf of Mexico, helicopter flights, water survival, and a TWIC card required.
