Overview

The Material Specialist is assigned to support onshore material management and logistics for the customer at an onshore facility. The primary function of this role is the day-to-day operation of the onshore warehouse, the receipt, stocking, storage, picking, issuance, and movement of materials, equipment, and consumables supporting both onshore and offshore oil and gas operations, including the preparation and shipment of materials to offshore assets and maintaining accurate inventory through regular counts within the facility. In addition, the Material Specialist is expected to fill in for offshore warehousemen as needed, traveling to and performing the material management duties of an offshore production platform during relief rotations. The goal, in both settings, is to store, maintain, and deliver goods in the right quantity, at the right time, and to the right place for the teams performing operations, preservation, and maintenance across the supported assets.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, pick, stage, and dispatch materials and equipment to offshore assets in line with delivery schedules, marine logistics requirements, and operational priorities, ensuring shipments reach the correct vessel and asset on time.
  • Build, label, and document offshore shipments, including manifests, cargo carrying unit (CCU) certifications, dangerous goods declarations, and related paperwork, verifying that all cargo and containers meet offshore lifting and certification standards before dispatch.
  • Receive and inspect backloads returning from offshore, confirming materials against the Bill of Lading, then sorting and returning items to stock or routing them appropriately.
  • Perform physical inventory counts and routine cycle counts, physically walking the warehouse(s) and counting material items, maintaining accurate inventory records and stock locations in the ERP system (SAP) and investigating and reconciling variances.
  • Provide care and custody of warehouse materials, ensuring accuracy and availability in a safe and efficient manner, and tracking material availability for the various operations teams on and offshore.
  • Receive incoming shipments and offload cargo boxes, verifying quantities, part numbers, and condition against purchase orders, packing lists, and Bills of Lading, and documenting discrepancies and damages. Picking up and putting down material on the floor or shelving is required.
  • Stock and put away incoming materials in designated bin, rack, and yard locations, maintaining accurate location records.
  • Physically and systematically stage and issue material against work orders and requisitions for scheduled work and consumable items, for both onshore and offshore demand, ensuring correct items and quantities are released.
  • Optimize warehouse space, including placement of fast-moving materials, materials with special storage requirements, and materials with differing physical profiles, and assist in optimizing stocking strategies for replenishment materials.
  • Operate material handling equipment, including 5K forklifts, stock pickers, reach trucks, pallet jacks, and dollies, to load, unload, stack, and retrieve materials safely and efficiently; perform daily pre-use inspections and remove unsafe equipment from service.
  • Support loading and offloading of trucks, including securing and rigging of loads where qualified.
  • Monitor and action all inboxes to ensure business continuity and serve as a point of contact for material management and supply chain related inquiries.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and hazard-free warehouse and yard in line with 5S and housekeeping standards.
  • Comply with all HSSE policies, permit-to-work systems, and lifting/rigging procedures; participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and incident reporting; and intervene or stop work upon observing unsafe conditions.
  • Participate in and adhere to any asset/company mandated programs, trainings, and other requirements, and engage effectively with coworkers and colleagues of varying experience and knowledge.
  • Always wear mandatory Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when required.
  • May have to fill in for offshore personnel.
