Overview

This role is responsible for supporting, maintaining, and advancing field communication systems that enable reliable oil and gas production operations. The position works closely with Operations, Automation, Security, and Information Technology teams to understand field communication requirements and deliver safe, efficient, and cost‑effective solutions. The role requires strong technical expertise, the ability to work independently, and a commitment to safety, compliance, and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Operations, Automation, Security, and IT teams to understand and support field communication needs.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and established standards.
  • Actively participate in environmental, health, and safety programs and promote a strong safety culture.
  • Ensure safe installation of communication towers and infrastructure, including coordination of line locates through the 811 system.
  • Supervise contractor activities to ensure safe work practices and efficient use of labor and materials.
  • Complete tasks with minimal supervision while managing multiple priorities.
  • Apply basic knowledge of oil and gas production operations and reservoir management.
  • Work with multiple departments to develop and maintain standardized installation practices and technical documentation.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, records, and inventory of communication hardware; forecast equipment and ordering needs.
  • Use extensive knowledge of DC electronics with a working knowledge of AC electrical systems.
  • Perform areal and topographic analysis to support line‑of‑sight (LOS) studies, RF coverage analysis, and microwave path design.
  • Design and support point‑to‑point and point‑to‑multipoint wireless communication solutions using licensed and unlicensed frequencies.
  • Monitor network infrastructure and promptly analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve network outages and related issues.
  • Provide timely situational and status reports to impacted internal teams.Ensure the integrity and functionality of all physical communication assets, including radio masts, remote site towers, backhaul towers, antennas, and cabling.
  • Maintain proper firmware and configurations on all field communication devices.
  • Provide communication systems training and technical support to Automation, Measurement, and Well Technicians.
  • Apply knowledge of FAA and FCC requirements, including filings, registrations, clearance requirements, obstruction lighting, and ASSE/TIA standards.
  • Support and optimize two‑way radio systems, serial radios, microwave systems, and wireless network designs.
  • Evaluate and determine the most cost‑efficient communication equipment and system solutions.
  • Research, evaluate, and recommend innovative communication technologies.
  • Review, evaluate, and process communication‑related invoices accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accountability for project budgets, cost controls, and overall financial reconciliation.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related industry experience.
  • Experience with:
    • Wireless, microwave, and radio communication systems
    • RF coverage analysis, microwave path design, and tower site acquisition
    • Networking protocols including Ethernet, TCP/IP, routing, switching, and wireless networking
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Strong documentation, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must meet conditional job offer requirements, including background check, drug test, motor vehicle record (MVR) check, fit‑for‑duty evaluation, and agility testing.
