The Instrument and Controls Engineer supports upstream oil & gas production facilities across the Midland Basin (Midland, TX) and Delaware Basin (Carlsbad, NM). This role focuses on maintaining and improving instrumentation, electrical, and control systems that support safe and efficient facility operations.
The engineer will primarily support the maintenance program by developing equipment strategies, creating job aids for IC&E maintenance activities, and validating the effectiveness of maintenance programs through field visits and reporting. This position works closely with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to troubleshoot issues, support projects, and ensure equipment and systems meet safety, regulatory, and operational standards.
Support maintenance strategy development for instrumentation, electrical, and control systems across field facilities.
Develop job aids and procedures for maintenance of IC&E equipment including UPS systems, motors, VFDs, instrumentation, and electrical systems.
Conduct field visits and inspections to validate maintenance program effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement.
Monitor and analyze performance of instrumentation, control systems, and medium/low voltage electrical equipment to ensure safe and efficient operations.
Specify and select appropriate instrumentation, sensors, electrical equipment, and control devices for onshore production facilities.
Oversee installation, configuration, and commissioning of IC&E systems and equipment.
Participate in risk assessments, HAZOPs, hazard reviews, and incident investigations.
Provide troubleshooting and technical support for instrument loops, electrical distribution systems, motor controls, and control systems.
Support project development and opportunity management, including scope development for facility improvements and upgrades.
Ensure instrumentation and electrical systems comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
Analyze operational data to identify optimization opportunities and process improvements.
Support facility modifications, repairs, and upgrades through Management of Change (MOC) processes.
Provide engineering support during facility shutdowns, brownfield upgrades, and greenfield projects.
