Overview

The Compressor Mechanic is responsible for assisting in the maintenance of one or more compressors with responsibility of the compressor packages and equipment. Provides feedback for the operation of compressor packages.  Planning and organization of PMs and other maintenance items. Has minimum of entry level diagnostic and repair skills. May assist other field locations/mechanics.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance on natural gas compressors and auxiliary equipment. 

  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues related to engines, compressors, and rotating equipment. 

  • Inspect, repair, and replace components such as valves, packing, pistons, rings, bearings, seals, and rods. 

  • Conduct compressor overhauls and major maintenance activities.

  • Maintain and service lubrication, cooling, fuel gas, and air systems.

  • Diagnose vibration, temperature, pressure, and performance issues.

  • Perform startups, shutdowns, and commissioning activities.

  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, OEM manuals, and maintenance procedures.

  • Accurately document maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs.

  • Ensure compliance with safety policies, environmental regulations, and company procedures.

  • Communicate effectively with operations, supervisors, and engineering teams.

  • Maintain good housekeeping practices at all work locations.

Qualifications

  • 3+ yrs. of Compressor Mechanic experienc required. 
  • Some knowledge in gas processes, mechanic of motor compressors (Waukesha, Ariel, Caterpillar, etc.)
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Main competencies: teamwork, effective communication, both written and oral, analytical capability, Mechanical aptitude, self-motivation and self-control, initiative, planning and problem solving.
  • Possess basic knowledge of compressor packages, including some components and systems
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
  • Must be able to meet all conditional job offer requirements including background, drug test, MVR, agility and fit for duty.
  • Must be able to communicate and respond to other contractors and personnel, emergency cues/alarms, in person and on the telephone, including use of mobile devices
  • Physical Demands: operation of heavy equipment (crane, manlift), standing for up to 75% of the time, sitting for up to 25% of the time, climbing ladders or stairs to inspecting, repairing equipment and must be able to maintain balance on stairs and/or ladders without assistance, Must be able to frequently lift at least 10 pounds, infrequent lifting of > 50 lbs, High noise environment (>85dbA) will occur with ear protection, Potential, controlled, exposure to hazardous chemicals (cleaning solvent), Requires work in outdoor conditions, including extreme heat and extreme cold, Requires moving and maintaining self in different positions—stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces, must wear all required PPE, including fire-retardant clothing, hard hats, face shields, hearing protection, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots and will require contractor to frequently type and use computer and other office equipment such as a copier, printer, calendar, telephone, etc.
