Overview

The Commissioning Specialist (Compressor) supports the commissioning, decommissioning, startup, and operational readiness of conventional and high-pressure gas compression equipment. This role is field-based and works closely with operations, maintenance, construction, and contractor teams to safely bring new compressor units and facility expansions online. The position emphasizes hands-on learning, mechanical troubleshooting, safety compliance, and strong coordination across multiple disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Commission and decommission conventional and high-pressure gas compressors

  • Coordinate pressure testing activities and support bringing new compressor units online

  • Inspect new builds and facility expansions during construction and pre-startup phases

  • Perform final inspections and participate in Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSRs)

  • Learn and support daily compressor and facility operations, ensuring good housekeeping practices

  • Conduct basic troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair or replacement of equipment under supervision

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date operational reports and documentation, including requirements related to JBPE

  • Interact daily with Foremen, Compressor Operators, Mechanics, Lease Operators, and contractors

  • Support on-call responsibilities and travel to field locations using a company vehicle

  • Utilize technology and reporting tools efficiently to support operations and compliance

  • Perform additional duties or special projects as assigned by the Supervisor

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required

  • Mechanical or oilfield-related experience required; minimum of approximately 3 years preferred (level-dependent)

  • Prior experience with gas compression or compressor gas lift operations preferred

  • Working knowledge of ancillary compressor equipment, including:

    • Fuel gas skids and engines for gas-driven units

    • Medium-voltage transformers, VFDs, and motors for electric-driven compressors

  • Familiarity with common automation and control equipment used in gas compression facilities

  • Ability to learn equipment, tools, and troubleshooting methods in a field environment

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with operations, maintenance, and construction teams

  • Valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record required. 

  • Must meet conditional job offer requirements including background, drug test, MVR, agility or fit for duty.
