Overview

The Land Survey/Agreement position is responsible for consulting with surface owners, negotiating agreements, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and environmental requirements to support oil and gas development activities. This role serves as the primary liaison between landowners, regulatory agencies, and company operations, ensuring that drilling sites, access routes, and infrastructure projects are executed smoothly and responsibly.

Responsibilities

  • Agreement Negotiation & Drafting: Prepare and execute Surface and Subsurface Use Agreements, ROWs, TB Agreements, Water Purchase and Transport Agreements, and other commercial contracts.
  • Landowner Engagement: Contact and build rapport with surface owners prior to company activities; coordinate arrangements to minimize disruption.
  • Survey & Construction Coordination: Schedule and accompany survey/construction teams to ensure multi-well pads are properly staked and aligned.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Maintain excellent communication with New Mexico surface owners, demonstrating knowledge of oil and gas development and rural industries (agriculture, ranching, farming).
  • Incident Response: Visit oil and saltwater spill sites, coordinate cleanup efforts with landowners, and document reportable spills in collaboration with Landmen.
  • Environmental Collaboration: Work daily with the Environmental team to monitor remediation progress and address ongoing landowner requirements.
  • Safety Compliance: Promote and enforce company safety guidelines with vendors and contractors; attend all required safety training.
  • Regulatory Permitting: Review, submit, and finalize BLM ROWs, SF-299 submissions, and surface disturbance requirements per BLM and NMSLO standards.
  • Local Permits: Manage Eddy and Lea County road crossing permits, as well as NMDOT pipeline, road, and electrical crossing approvals.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required 
  • 3–5 years of experience in oil and gas land operations, permitting, or stakeholder relations.
  • Strong knowledge of BLM, NMSLO, and NMDOT regulatory frameworks.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills with rural/agricultural stakeholders.
  • Ability to travel frequently to field sites across New Mexico.
  • Commitment to safety and environmental stewardship.
  • Must meet conditional job offer requirements including background check, drug test, MVR check, and fit for duty/agility test.
