Overview

The Environmental / Regulatory Technician II supports field environmental compliance activities across oil and gas production operations. This position performs inspection, testing, and maintenance of environmental monitoring equipment, with a primary focus on air emissions and leak detection using Optical Gas Imaging (OGI) technology. The technician assists in data collection, reporting, and regulatory documentation to ensure compliance with federal, state, and company environmental standards.

This role works closely with Environmental Engineers and SSHE (Safety, Security, Health, and Environmental) teams to execute monitoring programs, identify and correct environmental non-conformances, and maintain accurate compliance records.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine OGI camera inspections to identify and document fugitive emissions in accordance with LDAR (Leak Detection and Repair) and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform inspection, calibration, and basic maintenance on environmental monitoring equipment (PID, FID analyzers, stack monitoring instruments, etc.).
  • Collect and record environmental data related to air, water, and solid waste monitoring programs.
  • Maintain detailed and organized records of field data, inspections, and corrective actions.
  • Support environmental engineers in implementing monitoring plans and reporting requirements.
  • Communicate findings and assist in coordinating corrective measures with field and operations personnel.
  • Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and other environmental compliance briefings.
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with SSHE standards, company policies, and regulatory guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Optical Gas Imaging (OGI) certification required.
  • 2–5 years of environmental, regulatory, or compliance experience in the oil and gas industry (preferred upstream/production).
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or related technical discipline preferred; equivalent experience accepted.
  • Familiarity with EPA Method 21, LDAR programs, and emissions monitoring protocols.
  • Working knowledge of safety, health, and environmental regulations relevant to oil and gas operations (e.g., EPA, state air quality, waste, and water management rules).
  • Strong organizational skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe for documentation and reporting.
  • Ability to work independently in field environments and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Valid driver’s license; ability to travel to field locations as required.
  • Must be able to meet all conditional job offer requirements including background, MVR check, fit for duty/agility test and drug screening.
