Overview

The Plant/Process Operator I or II will support daily gas plant operations by working closely with the Control Room Technician (CRT) and other operations staff to ensure all activities are conducted safely and efficiently. This position is responsible for overseeing area activities, supporting commissioning efforts, maintaining equipment surveillance, and assisting in sulfur recovery operations. The role involves emergency response participation, work permit endorsement, and maintaining high standards of housekeeping and safety compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with CRT and Operations Technicians to ensure understanding of job safety, OIMS, and environmental and security protocols.
  • Work closely with contractors to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Participate in Operations Emergency Response activities for the area.
  • Support and coordinate start-up and commissioning with Systems Completion team.
  • Review planned maintenance work packages and validate isolation requirements.
  • Endorse Work Permits as Area Operator (AO) or Isolating Authority (IA) as needed.
  • Promote collaboration between Operations and Maintenance teams.
  • Support work prioritization for operational efficiency.
  • Maintain communication with CRT and across plant areas for effective coordination.
  • Ensure high standards of housekeeping and cleanliness in designated area.
  • Keep accurate daily logs and shift changeover documentation.
  • Perform physical tasks safely, including handling chemicals and climbing structures.
  • Conduct minor maintenance on plant equipment as required.
  • Make process adjustments to maintain product quality within standard limits.

Qualifications

  • Prior industry experience in plant or process operations required.
  • Strong knowledge of production processes and operations.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting P&IDs, PFDs, UFDs, and shutdown logic diagrams.
  • Demonstrated understanding of safety, health, and environmental practices.
  • Familiarity with safety tools such as Permit to Work (PTW), Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Step Back 5x5, and Risk Assessments.
  • Knowledge of Controls Integrity Management System (CIMS), Production Operations Best Practices (POBP), and Planning & Budgeting (P&B) processes.
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written) in English.
  • Good interpersonal and motivational skills with the ability to work in a multicultural environment.
  • Physical ability to safely lift, climb, and move materials as required.
