Overview

Pipeline Control Center remotely controls and monitors pipeline systems and terminals in compliance with the applicable Department of Transportation regulations.

The Pipeline Controller Is responsible for the safe and efficient remote operation of pipelines, tanks, and pumping equipment involved in the transportation of crude oil and other products.  The Controller must consistently ensure the safety of pipeline operations and prevent any environmental damage while meeting established schedules and customer needs, minimizing costs and securing product integrity.

WHAT’S THE ROLE

Pipeline Control Center operates US pipelines that receive crude from facilities and delivers to other refineries and pipelines. Also, the Control Center receives refined products and chemicals from refineries and chemical plants and deliver to distribution terminals and pipeline systems.  Pipeline Control Centers are required to comply with applicable Department of Transportation regulations contained in Subpart F—Operation and Maintenance of 49 CFR Part 195—Transportation of Hazardous Liquids by Pipeline and Subpart L—Operations of 49 CFR Part 192—Transportation of Natural and other Gas by Pipeline.

Responsibilities

  • Follow and observe Pipeline Controllers as they operate a variety of pipelines and facilities.
  • OJT supervised by a qualified Controller
  • Receive extensive training on Control Center Operating Procedures.
  • Learn how to create S4 work notification for malfunctioning equipment.
  • Complete multiple knowledge assessments with Control Center Supervisors and trainers to ensure your understanding of procedures and operations.
  • Collaborate with field operation personnel as well as third party Control Centers to complete daily operations.
  • Learn how to read and execute daily schedules issued by pipeline schedulers.
  • Learn how to properly document a variety of abnormal events.
  • Firsthand experience of the Control Center Operations Training and Qualification Program.

Qualifications

  • Process Technology degree, a Bachelor’s degree, equivalent operational experience, or applicable military experience..
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis without the requirement of a work visa.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must possess a current, valid license to operate a motor vehicle in the United States.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with colleagues and customers.
  • Willingness to work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule (including night, weekends, holidays and overtime).
