Overview

An Automation Integrator III executes automation engineering deliverables by programming and/or installing PLC programs and validating compliance to engineering design. 

Responsibilities

  • Supports automation engineering with design and control systems improvements.
  • Works with automation construction and commissioning project managers to commission facilities.
  • Responsible for PLC programming development and HMI/LOI programming and design work.
  • Assists with oversight of automation electrical design, troubleshooting, testing, debugging of programs, and redlining of engineering documentation for engineering as-builts. 
  • All aspects of facility commissioning with a focus on automation control systems. 
  • Responsible for maintaining project schedules to meet timelines. 
  • Engaged participation in project meetings and design reviews. 
  • Responsible for maintaining status reports. 
  • Advanced understanding of facilities equipment, process flow, and automation control systems and designs. 
  • Proficiency with electrical systems, mechanical systems, software applications, data management, and network security. 
  • Develop and validate automation programs ensuring compliance with engineering documentation. 
  • Use of PLC software (e.g., RSLogix500, RSLogix5000, DirectSoft5, ROCLINK 800/DS800), HMI programs (e.g., Red Lion Crimson, Factory Talk View, Panelview), and RTU programming. 
  • Complete redlines and relevant documentation to support current as-built post commissioning. 
  • Follow company management of change (MOC) process. 
  • Adhere to Oxy program standardization and best practices. 
  • Support operations and automation specialists with training on automation control system functions. 
  • Train aspiring automation integrators on organizational processes, programming automation control systems, equipment, and documentation. 
  • Support low VAC devices including transformers, breaker boxes, electrical switches, heaters, motors, and analyzers. 
  • Provide troubleshooting and basic repair to 120v AC power supply to automation systems and devices. 
  • Support troubleshooting of 480v and less of AC power availability and notify the electrical team of findings needing service/repair. 
  • Support automation end devices (switches, transmitters, etc.), calibrate, troubleshoot, install, and use Hart communicator and multi-meters. 
  • Identify and troubleshoot Ethernet, serial, satellite, and wireless field communications. 
  • Ensure alarms are within Oxy standards, accurately represent the process, function as intended, and follow appropriate change control protocols. 
  • Communicate project activities with asset teams. 
  • Assist in the evaluation of new technologies providing pro and con analyses. 
  • Support customers (operations) as a liaison with automation engineering to assist in the design of projects and a desired operating philosophy. 
  • Active participation in Oxy process improvement teams. 
  • Ability and willingness to travel to support unassigned job areas as needed. 
  • Ability and willingness to work 12-hour shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and participate in an on-call rotation when needed. 
  • Advanced teamwork and collaboration abilities with internal and external business units, exemplifying a responsible attitude for personal safety and the safety of co-workers, contractors, and the public. 

Qualifications

  • Two-year technical degree and 7+ years of oil and gas automation integrator/programming experience with 3+ years of oil field process facilities experience. 
  • Advanced understanding of automation and electrical design principles. 
  • Advanced knowledge and technical skills working with PLCs, HMIs, RTUs, EFMs, POCs (e.g., Allen Bradley, Totalflow, ROCs, Coriolis), and automation devices. 
  • Intermediate knowledge of technical standards and guidelines (e.g., API, NEC, NFPA, IEEE, ISA). 
  • Advanced understanding of automation systems and network connections. 
  • Advanced understanding of PSSRs (pre-startup safety review) and MOCs (management of change). 
  • Advanced understanding of digital and analog I/O, programming, and troubleshooting. 
  • Proficient knowledge of analog and discrete instrumentation, and various serial and Ethernet communication protocols. 
  • Extensive expertise in safe work systems. 
  • Expertise in electrical/automation construction codes and practices. 
  • Extensive knowledge of automation equipment specifications and application. 
  • Demonstrated time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks within timelines. 
  • Ability to assist in estimating and managing budgets. 
  • Must be able to work under pressure. 
  • Proficiency in leadership, mentoring, and training. 
  • Advanced communication skills, including written, oral, and remote meeting skills. 
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Windows operating systems. 
  • Must meet all conditional job offer requirements, including background, drug, hair follicle, MVR, agility, and fit for duty.
