Overview

The Offshore Crane Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and inspection of offshore cranes and related equipment. The role requires extensive knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems, with a focus on ensuring that all crane operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with industry standards. The mechanic will be stationed offshore and 

must be comfortable working in a challenging and dynamic environment.

 

Responsibilities

 

 

Maintenance & Repair:

  • Perform routine maintenance on offshore cranes, including hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems.
  • Preventative maintenance includes proper lubrication of moving parts, and minor repairs and replacements associated with the crane, crane engine, hydraulic systems, and all safety components.

Inspection & Testing:

  • Conduct pre-use, monthly and quarterly inspections of cranes and lifting equipment to ensure safety and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Test crane operations to ensure optimal performance and identify potential issues before they become critical.
  • Document all inspections, tests, and repairs in accordance with company policies and procedures.

 

Safety Compliance:

  • Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines when performing maintenance and repairs.
  • Participate in safety meetings and training sessions to stay updated on industry best practices.
  • Report any unsafe conditions or practices immediately to the offshore management team.

Troubleshooting:

  • Quickly respond to and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions or failures.
  • Utilize technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools to identify and resolve issues.
  • Collaborate with other maintenance team members to resolve complex problems.

 

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, including parts used, time spent, and work completed.
  • Communicate with onshore support teams regarding parts inventory, equipment status, and any technical support needs.

 

Training & Mentorship:

  • Provide guidance and training to junior mechanics or technicians as needed.
  • Assist in developing and updating maintenance procedures and best practices.

Qualifications

 

 

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical/vocational training in mechanical systems preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a crane mechanic, preferably in an offshore environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.

 

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
  • Proficient in using diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Physically fit and able to work in challenging offshore conditions.

 

Other Requirements:

  • Willingness to work offshore for extended periods, often in remote locations.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights.
